Having God’s wisdom and direction is a primary goal for motivating my decisions. I don’t know about you, but every time I’ve made a bad decision or “messed up”, I realize that instead of listening to the Holy Spirit, or following God’s guidance, that my motivation was self-interest or simply my own thought about what I should do at the time.
Last week, I talked about learning to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit through spiritual growth. If you have recognized your need, and accepted Jesus’ offer of salvation, then God has given you the gift of the Holy Spirit. He actually moves and takes up residence inside of you! He offers to teach and guide you each day as you learn to listen for His voice. He doesn’t impose Himself on you, but is always available to respond when you seek His help, most often as you acquaint yourself with His Word in the Bible.
We need to ask the Lord each day to give us the wisdom that we need to handle the challenges and difficulties that we face and to make the right choices. The Bible instructs us to “get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:5) and tells us that if we ask in faith, God will be generous in giving His wisdom (James 1:5-6).
As we move ahead in the process of spiritual growth, we begin to recognize that we can depend on the Holy Spirit to guide us and to help us to put into practice the wisdom that God provides as we ask in trust and faith.
Have you arrived at a place where you can ask God for His wisdom and guidance with the assurance that the Holy Spirit will disclose it to you and guide you?
