Having God’s wisdom and direction is a primary goal for motivating my decisions. I don’t know about you, but every time I’ve made a bad decision or “messed up”, I realize that instead of listening to the Holy Spirit, or following God’s guidance, that my motivation was self-interest or simply my own thought about what I should do at the time.

Last week, I talked about learning to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit through spiritual growth. If you have recognized your need, and accepted Jesus’ offer of salvation, then God has given you the gift of the Holy Spirit. He actually moves and takes up residence inside of you! He offers to teach and guide you each day as you learn to listen for His voice. He doesn’t impose Himself on you, but is always available to respond when you seek His help, most often as you acquaint yourself with His Word in the Bible.

We need to ask the Lord each day to give us the wisdom that we need to handle the challenges and difficulties that we face and to make the right choices. The Bible instructs us to “get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:5) and tells us that if we ask in faith, God will be generous in giving His wisdom (James 1:5-6).

As we move ahead in the process of spiritual growth, we begin to recognize that we can depend on the Holy Spirit to guide us and to help us to put into practice the wisdom that God provides as we ask in trust and faith.

Have you arrived at a place where you can ask God for His wisdom and guidance with the assurance that the Holy Spirit will disclose it to you and guide you?

There’s nothing like being able to pick up messages that the Holy Spirit wants you to hear!

Getting in tune with the Holy Spirit allows you to determine if you’re on the right path and in alignment with God’s will. It provides the confidence you need for moving forward with God’s plan for your life using the gifts and talents that He gave you, and the ability to experience true peace.

Developing a close relationship with the Holy Spirit is akin to improving physical fitness through exercise. It’s basically a matter of spending some time and effort that will significantly improve your spiritual growth and personal walk with God.

As a Christian Life Coach, my training and focus is to help you to develop a plan and work on the support and encouragement that will enhance your spiritual growth and fitness.

If you’re listening for God’s voice in your life, I think I can help to improve your hearing!

Trust is a primary ingredient in establishing a healthy relationship! A solid foundation is needed to produce trust. The Bible tells us that Christ is our spiritual rock (1 Corinthians 10:4). As believers, we are able to build a rock-solid relationship with Him (Matthew 7:24-25). As we build our relationship with the Lord, we are empowered to build healthy relationships with family and friends.

If we don’t accept God’s word that Christ is our foundational rock, we allow doubt to become our enemy! Doubt presents serious roadblocks to building healthy relationships, as well as undermining our spiritual growth. Doubt takes root when we rely on our feelings and experiences, instead of trusting in Christ to direct our path.

Are you putting your trust in Christ and building on the Rock?

This article and magazine appeared when unpacking a box left over from my last move twenty-five years ago!

In the year 2000, I fulfilled my dream to be a Maine resident. In retrospect, I believe that my move was a part of the Lord’s plan to move me toward a fulfilling profession as a Life Coach and a calling to help others resolve problems, achieve goals, move forward, experience healing, and find God’s purpose by exploring, understanding and improving a personal relationship with Him.

At the time, I was motivated to save the coaching articles simply because the idea of being a life coach seemed appealing to me. Actually, I knew little about the profession and its methodology at the time. After earning my B.A. in Psychology and some follow up study in a graduate social work program, along with six years working in the mental health field, my interest in becoming a therapist or other professional helpmate became more ingrained. However, a move to another state, along with a divorce and remarriage, moved my focus to employment that seemed better able to meet my financial needs at the time. It has helped me to appreciate the fact that God’s timing is always right, whether I can understand it or not.

Although my coaching career had a relatively late start, I now realize that I was in need of a better understanding, and some healing and resolution of my personal issues, before moving ahead with further education and acquisition of additional coaching skills. God’s timing is always the right timing!

Is there something that God may be whispering to you about help with your desires or your struggles and difficulties? Do you know His great love for you?

Talking with a Life Coach can help you toward resolution and a new lease on life!

Two primary facets of coaching involve help in finding the right direction and encouragement. A major key to providing a positive result is a willing attitude and desire on the part of the client to both receive help and to help themself.

From my experience working in the mental health field, I can’t count how many times my efforts to help clients were thwarted or frustrated because the person I was trying to help did not genuinely and wholeheartedly desire change. They wanted someone (whether me or God) to wave a magic wand, or say a prayer, and presto change-o! All done!

Finding the right direction and experiencing real encouragement takes desire, commitment and hard work, especially on the part of the client! There’s a correlation with the spiritual growth that occurs when a believer experiences the desire to know more about, and become a disciple, of Jesus. The desire and commitment, over time, for spiritual growth produces change. That person becomes more like Jesus when there is consistency in learning and responding to God’s direction day by day.

John Darby, a noted author has observed: “Spiritual growth is the Holy Spirit engraving the Lord Jesus on a man’s heart, putting Him into his thoughts, his words, and his ways, just as the Law was engraved upon stones.”

If you are ready for change, having a coach can help considerably. But, I invite you to first consider asking yourself a question.

“Do I have a desire for a relationship with Jesus Christ and for the spiritual growth that He desires for me?”

Although honesty seems to be accepted, almost universally, as a top of the list virtue, it’s critical for achieving success in a coaching relationship.

Gainful insight and clarity are needed, and they both require absolute honesty.

Coaching, as is true in counseling, will only work when clients are willing to be honest about the situation at hand.

My clients, in addition to being honest with me, must also be honest with themselves.

The #1 enemy of honesty in our relationships is denial. If a client is in denial about any aspect of the issue that we are working on, progress will come to a halt.

If you’re in agreement with me about the value of honesty, and you feel ready to move forward, then you are ready for coaching and some positive results!

When you understand God’s opinion of the care and attention that He put into creating you, you know that your value is off the charts!

You can put aside the notion that your value, in God’s sight, is measured in relation to the attributes or accomplishments of others.

God created you exactly as He intended.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

You are worthy because God says you are worthy. He loves you to the extent that He sent His Son to die in your place so that you could live with Him forever!

How can you not believe that you are God’s desired creation?

Happy Valentines Day!

Valentines Day should remind believers of God’s commandment to love others.  (Matt. 22:37-39, Mark 12:30-31, Luke 10:27, Romans 13:8-9)

Before we can love others with a love that is true, it’s necessary to understand our Father’s love for us. As devotional author Chris Tiegreen puts it, “Before we ever know how to love, we have to know how to BE loved”.

For many of us, it can be very difficult to comprehend how God can love us, especially if we are filled with shame and guilt over past mistakes and failures.

As we come to understand the gospel truth that, as believers in Christ’s sacrifice for our sins, we become children of God and accepted into an eternal relationship with Him, we gain the understanding and ability to accept the fact that God loves us. In turn, this opens a door that leads us to a place where it becomes part of our nature to love others.

In other words, when you understand the love that God has for you, and that you did nothing to deserve that love, you will become naturally open to loving others, even when they wouldn’t normally appear lovable.

Simply put, loving others begins with understanding, believing, and accepting God’s love for you.

If this is a challenging concept, or an obstacle in your life path, I’m available to discuss it.

It’s already February and Valentine’s Day will be here soon!

A day to celebrate Love!

Valentine’s Day can also be a difficult day for those who do not have a significant other.

The good news is that we can all take comfort in knowing that we are loved with an everlasting love. We have a God who loved us so much that He sent His one and only Son to die in our place so that we can enjoy an intimate relationship with Him.

I don’t know where I would be without the love of God. He has given me all that I have, as well as all that I need, including the wherewithal for coaching as a service to Him and to others.

It is His love that fuels my passion for coaching and for helping others. His unfathomable love and grace are my motivation for wanting to share His love and to help others achieve their God-given goals.

God is love! Now that is something to celebrate!

Don’t all of us have reasons to complain at times?

Everyone has their own issues and problems to deal with that few, if any, others are ever aware of.

As believers, Jesus cares and provides every need, whether we recognize it or not.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

As Paul tells us, at a time when he was hurting and had a ton of problems, he was learning to be content. It is something we have to learn (Philippians 4:11).

Only by trusting the truth (Jesus) when He tells us that He has all of our needs met, can we know that we have nothing to complain about.

Need any help adopting this mindset? Let me know!
