As beautiful as it is, the Christmas season has a way of stirring up and increasing our anxiety.

Before you allow your mind to wander down the road of worry, cry out to your heavenly Father!

He hears your prayers!  Even Jesus cried out to His Father when he was burdened here on earth.

When you give your worries to the Lord, you shift your focus from your problems to your loving Father, who is all-knowing and all-powerful.

As we’re told in 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

If you can put your focus on God’s ultimate Christmas gift to us, you’ll discover that you can trust that God is ready to take your cares into His hands.

We all experience various forms of turmoil in our lives. Often it’s a relationship that causes pain and suffering. We all would like to experience greater peace and contentment despite the storms that sometimes rage around us.

It is possible! This quote about peace from Charles Stanley is worth a close reading…

“God’s peace is not an escape from reality. We are not transfixed or somehow mentally ‘removed’ from feeling pain or struggling…Rather, peace is an undergirding rock-solid foundation so that no matter the tears we cry or the sorrow we feel, deep down inside we know with an abiding assurance that God is with us. God is in control, and the joy of the Lord is going to emerge far greater than any depth of agony we may be experiencing.”

This kind of peace is a principal focus of my coaching practice.

One of the things I am most thankful for is being able to sit and rest in God’s Presence.

To know He is there and to feel Him with me.

To receive that which He has to give me in those special moments.

His Words, His Wisdom, His Power, His Majesty.

I can relax and bask in His Love whenever I choose to.

Feel His loving arms enfold me.

Feel His Holy Spirit surround me.

This is the mindset of Praise and Thankfulness.

Joy, contentment and peace are our reward.

Have you entered His gates? Are you thankful?

Does He have your devotion and your time?

Equating your life to a card game, what kind of a hand have you been dealt?

If you think you’re a victim of having been dealt a poor hand, a new mindset will help you to move forward, achieve goals and experience some peace.

1 Corinthians 2:16 speaks to having the “mind of Christ”. Now that is a mindset to have!

Coaching can help you toward acquiring that mindset that will guide you toward achieving a new quality of life, helpful goals and peace of mind.

Could you benefit from talking with a coach about the cards you were dealt, your mindset, and your next move?

The word “let” tells us that something is required of us to experience His peace. Scripture tells us that what is required is belief. In Greek, the language of early Bible manuscripts, “belief” is defined as placing absolute confidence and trust in. Without that confidence and trust, Christ, and His peace, elude us.

Belief, (trust and faith), in Christ opens the door for union with Him and the gift of His peace. You can experience calm and the comfort of remaining untroubled despite the storms and trials which frequent all of our lives.

The peace of Christ is a gift as well as a promise of God to all who trust in Him.

Will you take hold of it?

The farmer needs a guide to help him direct his plow in a straight path. He fixes his gaze on an object in the distance, like a tree or a post, to help him stay on a straight path. If he turns to look behind him while he plows, his plow will veer off course and his furrows will become crooked.

Like the farmer, Paul admonished the church that a straight path forward requires that we avoid looking behind us and focus on the things that are ahead. As we keep our focus ahead, depending on the Lord as our guide, our path will produce great things that He has in store for us, both in this life and in our home with Him in heaven, the prize of everlasting glory!

Are you avoiding the temptation of concentrating on what’s behind you and working to keep your focus on the high calling ahead of you?

If you have read any of my previous “Thought of The Week” posts, then you know that I love to share truth and encouragement from God’s Word. I see the Bible as one of my primary reference tools in working one on one with clients, coaching them through problems and helping them reach their goals. Although helping women who have experienced trauma is something of a specialty for me, a universal goal for every client is growth in the client’s relationship with Christ. This includes partnering between myself, the client and the Holy Spirit.

In his popular devotional, “My Utmost For His Highest”, Oswald Chambers writes: “My goal is God himself, not joy nor peace, nor even blessing, but Himself, my God.”

One of the apostle Paul’s several confirmations of this goal, and secret to success, is seen in his prayer for the Ephesians, Chapter 1, verses 17-23. Verse 17 reads: “…that the God of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him…”. It is Jesus Christ who invites us into an intimate relationship with Him that is life-changing, and it is our personal relationship with God that enables us to be successful.

Are you interested in knowing God more intimately?

If you would like to talk about your goals, and grow in your relationship with God, send me a message or schedule a time to talk about a coaching relationship and whether I would be a good fit for you. I would love to help you on your journey!

A few thoughts as Thanksgiving draws near…

Thankfulness always enhances our relationship with God and usually spills over to build better relationships with others.

Borrowing a quote from Andrew Murray that I like: “Thanksgiving will draw our hearts out to God and keep us engaged with Him; it will take our attention from ourselves and give the Spirit room in our hearts.”

We should remind ourselves that thankfulness, by itself, flows as a gift of the Holy Spirit and His residence in us as believers, cementing our relationship with God and Jesus Christ.

Regardless of our current circumstances, the Holy Spirit can guide us through God’s Word to boundless reasons for thanking the Lord!

Is thankfulness a main ingredient in your prayers? What are you thankful for today?

Are you feeling weary?

Maybe you are being challenged by a relationship with conflicts that are weighing you down.

Do you sometimes wonder why God does not seem to be helping you with your burdens?

Are you confused about why He allows your strife to continue?

Consider the truth in these words written by the late pastor Albert B. Simpson:

“He has let that trouble come to you, beloved, just for an opportunity to get you out of it, that it may be a stepping stone to Himself”.

Could it be that the challenges that you are experiencing are being used by the Lord Jesus to call you closer to Him?

Are you ready to accept His offer of rest?

It is important to set and make goals that are in line with the vision that we have for our lives.

It is even more important to remain open to the Lord’s leading, even if it is in a different direction than we were planning.

When we have taken the step to set a goal and then act toward reaching that goal, He will occasionally show us a different direction.

I find this to be typical of how the Lord works with us.

After waiting for us to step out in faith and act, He steps in to meet us and help us to move toward His purpose and plan for our lives.

One of my jobs as a coach is to come alongside a client to help them in considering specific goals and their best next step toward reaching a desired goal.
